Leading Heart Hospitals in India
List of some of the leading heart / cardiac hospitals in India

India has cardiac centres capable of everything from coronary angiography and rhythm treatment to open-heart surgery, congenital-heart procedures and advanced heart-failure care.
But asking for the “best heart hospital in India” is not always the most useful question.
A patient with a complex arrhythmia may need a strong electrophysiology programme. A child born with a heart defect needs paediatric cardiology and cardiac surgery. Someone with advanced heart failure may need a centre capable of mechanical circulatory support or transplantation.
The hospitals below are therefore not ranked from first to last. They are representative, well-known cardiac institutions whose current services can be verified from their official material.
AIIMS New Delhi — Public-Sector Tertiary Cardiac Care
The All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi combines cardiology with cardiothoracic and vascular surgery inside a major teaching and referral institution.
Its Department of Cardiology documents adult and paediatric coronary interventions, valvuloplasty, catheter-based closure of congenital heart defects and electrophysiology procedures including radiofrequency ablation, pacemakers, biventricular pacing and implantable cardioverter-defibrillators.
That breadth makes AIIMS particularly important in India's public-sector cardiac system. It is not simply a hospital performing bypass operations; it combines highly specialised clinical care with medical education and research.
Access, however, can differ substantially from private hospitals because major government referral centres may handle very high patient volumes.
Fortis Escorts Heart Institute, New Delhi — Dedicated Cardiac Specialisation
Fortis Escorts Heart Institute is one of India's best-known dedicated private heart hospitals.
Its current cardiac programmes include conventional and complex coronary intervention, cardiac surgery and advanced interventional procedures. Fortis specifically lists techniques such as complex angioplasty, shockwave coronary lithotripsy and Impella-supported intervention for selected high-risk cases.
The institution is also NABH accredited, while its laboratories carry NABL accreditation.
Its significance is the concentration of cardiac services inside a hospital historically structured around heart disease rather than cardiology being only one department in a much larger general hospital.
Medanta, Gurugram — A Broad Heart-Team Model
The Heart Institute at Medanta Gurugram illustrates another model: bringing cardiologists, cardiac surgeons and advanced-heart-failure specialists into an integrated cardiac programme.
Its documented services include coronary bypass surgery, TAVI/TAVR, paediatric cardiology and advanced heart-failure care. Medanta also describes hybrid cath-lab infrastructure that allows catheter-based intervention and surgery to be integrated for selected procedures.
The hospital's cardiac programme extends into heart transplantation and left-ventricular assist-device care for appropriate patients with advanced heart failure.
That does not make transplantation relevant to most heart patients; it represents the far end of the cardiac-care spectrum.
Apollo Heart Institutes, Chennai — A Long-Established Private Cardiac Network
Chennai's role as a healthcare hub is closely connected with the growth of large private tertiary hospitals, and Apollo Heart Institutes Chennai is one of the city's prominent cardiac programmes.
Apollo currently lists coronary intervention, structural and congenital-heart procedures, electrophysiology, valve treatment and cardiothoracic surgery among its cardiac services.
Its specialist teams include interventional cardiologists, electrophysiologists, cardiac surgeons, paediatric cardiologists, heart-failure specialists and transplant specialists.
That range is useful because cardiac disease increasingly crosses traditional boundaries. A valve patient, for example, may need assessment by both interventional cardiologists and surgeons rather than automatically being sent down one treatment path.
Narayana Institute of Cardiac Sciences, Bengaluru — High-Volume Specialist Heart Care
Narayana Institute of Cardiac Sciences in Bengaluru is the flagship cardiac institution within Narayana Health's Health City campus.
Narayana describes it as a super-specialty heart hospital accredited by both JCI and NABH. Its broader cardiac-sciences programme spans cardiology, cardiac surgery and critical care.
The institution is particularly associated with the development of large-scale cardiac care in Bengaluru and has built specialist services for both adult and paediatric patients.
Its presence also demonstrates that India's major cardiac ecosystem is not concentrated only in Delhi and Mumbai; Bengaluru and Chennai have become important centres for complex cardiac treatment as well.
Sree Chitra Tirunal Institute, Thiruvananthapuram — Cardiac Care Plus Research
The Sree Chitra Tirunal Institute for Medical Sciences and Technology offers a different kind of cardiac institution.
It is a Government of India institute under the Department of Science and Technology, combining cardiovascular clinical care with research and biomedical-technology development.
Its cardiovascular and thoracic surgery division treats adult and congenital heart disease. The institute says its adult programme performs around 1,000 open-heart operations a year, while its paediatric cardiac-surgery service treats congenital heart disease from neonates through adults.
Sree Chitra is also historically associated with development of the TTK Chitra mechanical heart valve, illustrating the connection between clinical cardiac care and indigenous medical-device research.
The Right Hospital Depends on the Heart Problem
These institutions show why a single national ranking can be misleading.
For coronary artery disease, important questions may include emergency cardiac services, cath-lab capability and cardiac surgery.
For an arrhythmia, the relevant capability is electrophysiology.
For congenital heart disease, it may be paediatric cardiology plus paediatric cardiac surgery.
For severe heart failure, a patient may need a centre with a dedicated heart-failure programme, mechanical support and transplant evaluation.
Cost, insurance coverage, waiting time, geography and continuity of follow-up matter as well.
Patients can also check NABH's public directory when verifying hospital accreditation. Accreditation is useful evidence that a hospital has been assessed against defined quality and patient-safety standards, but it does not guarantee the result of a particular procedure.
India's cardiac strength is therefore not one hospital occupying the top position on a list. It is the existence of multiple specialised centres across different cities and healthcare models.
Choosing among them starts with identifying the exact cardiac problem—and then finding a centre and clinical team that routinely manages it.
