The Indian gaming market crossed $1 billion in annual revenue in 2025, according to recent industry reporting, with mobile-game spending playing a major role.

For many young Indians, the smartphone became their first real gaming device.

Games such as BGMI and other competitive mobile titles also helped build communities around livestreaming and esports.

This matters because the next major gaming company does not necessarily have to come from California, Japan or Europe.

A future global hit could be designed in Bengaluru, Pune, Hyderabad or another growing Indian technology centre.

Gaming Has Become a Spectator Sport

Another strange transformation has taken place.

People now regularly watch other people play games.

A generation ago, explaining that millions would someday watch professional video-game competitions might have sounded ridiculous.

Today it is called esports.
